The Irish Print Awards were created in 1978 by John Murphy, the founder and publisher of the Irish Printer magazine. Murphy noticed that there was no platform to recognize the exceptional work being produced by the print and packaging industry in Ireland, and so he decided to create an awards program to celebrate the achievements of the sector.

The inaugural awards were a modest affair, with just a few categories, but they quickly grew in popularity, and by the 1990s, they had become a prestigious event in the Irish print and packaging industry calendar. Today, the Irish Print Awards continue to honour and showcase the best of Irish print and design and are recognized as a benchmark of excellence in the industry.

The Irish Print Awards has a rich history spanning over four decades, celebrating excellence and innovation in the print and packaging industry in Ireland. Since its inception in 1978, the awards have been a platform to showcase the best of Irish print and design, from commercial litho and digital printing to packaging, labels, signage, and much more.

The packaging industry has always been closely intertwined with the print industry, as printing technology is essential in creating high-quality packaging materials. As such, it was a natural evolution for the Irish Print Awards to include packaging categories as the industry grew and diversified.

Packaging plays a crucial role in branding, marketing, and sales, and has become an essential component of the print and design industry. The packaging categories in the Irish Print Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in the packaging industry, recognizing outstanding work in areas such as label design, packaging printing, and carton packaging.

As the industry has evolved, so has the awards, with new categories added to reflect emerging technologies and trends. The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts and recognized as a benchmark of excellence in the print and packaging industry in Ireland.
